How to create and configure Device Groups in the SureMDM console?

Device groups enable the correct grouping of devices based on their respective categories and make it easy to manage. SureMDM allows admins to create groups and sub-groups and simplifies them to categorize and apply jobs or profiles to a list of devices having the same group name.

Admins can create logical groups to push job(s) or profile(s) with just a single click. The Home group holds all the groups and sub-groups and acts as the parent group.

The Groups option in SureMDM comes with the below tools.

1. Create:

This option helps the admin in creating new Groups. Below are the steps to explore this option.

  1. Login to SureMDM web console.
  2. In the console click on Groups on the Top-Left corner of the SureMDM web console. (next to Tags.)
  3. Click on the Add(+) symbol to add a New Group.
  4. In the pop up enter the Group name and click OK. This will create a Group.

Note: To add device(s) under a specific Group, please follow the below mentioned steps:

  • Login to SureMDM web console.
  • In the SureMDM home Select the device(s) and Right-click and select the option  Move to Group.
  • From the pop up select the Group you desire and click Move.


2. Rename:

This option helps the admin in renaming the existing Group. Below are the steps to explore this option.

  1. Login to SureMDM web console.
  2. In the console click on Groups on the Top-Left corner of the SureMDM web console. (next to Tags.)
  3. From the list of Groups, select a Device Group you wish to rename and click on the Rename symbol.
  4. In the Rename pop-up enter the New Group Name and click OK. This will rename the Group.

3. Delete:

This option helps the admin in deleting an existing Group. Below are the steps to explore this option.

  1. Login to SureMDM web console.
  2. In the console click on Groups on the Top-Left corner of the SureMDM web console. (next to Tags.)
  3. From the list of Groups, select a device Group you wish to Delete and click on the Delete symbol.
  4. Confirm the choice in the confirmation screen by clicking the option as per your requirements.

4. Properties:

This option helps the admin push job(s)/profiles set the default jobs to group(s) whenever a device gets enrolled to a specific group and move it to a specific group. Below are the steps to explore this option.

  1. Login to SureMDM web console.
  2. In the console click on Groups on the Top-Left corner of the SureMDM web console. (next to Tags.)
  3. From the list of Groups, select a group you wish to check the properties of and click on the Properties symbol.
  4. This will display a Group Properties prompt, You need to click on “Add” option and select the desired job(s) and click OK to push the job by default to all the devices under the Group.

If you want to delete any default jobs assigned for specific group, You need to Group Properties prompt, Select the desired job(s) and click on “Delete” option and click YES to delete the job.

5. Apply Job:

This option helps the admin apply job(s)/profiles (Not set as Default) to the devices under a specific group. Below are the steps to explore this option.

  1. Login to SureMDM web console.
  2. In the console click on Group in the Top-Left corner of the SureMDM web console. (next to Tags.)
  3. From the list of Group, select a group you wish to Apply job to and click on click on Apply Job to a group  option.
  4. This will display a Apply Job/Profile To Group prompt, select the desired job(s)  you wish to apply to the devices under the selected group.
  5. Click Apply. This will apply selected Job(s)/Profile to the devices under the selected Group.

6. Group Job History:

This option helps the admin check the jobs history of all devices under that specific group. Below are the steps to explore this option.

  1. Login to SureMDM web console.
  2. In the console click on Group in the Top-Left corner of the SureMDM web console. (next to Tags.)
  3. From the list of Groups, select a group you wish to view the job history and click on Job history  option.
  4. This will display all Jobs/Profile applied To Group, Admin can View the jobs queued for a group based on the status: Pending, In Progress, Failed and Completed.

7. Move to Group:

This option helps the admin Move the entire group into another group/Sub-groups. Below are the steps to explore this option.

  1. Login to SureMDM web console.
  2. In the console click on Group in the Top-Left corner of the SureMDM web console. (next to Tags.)
  3. From the list of Groups, select a group you wish to move the entire group into another group or sub-group and click on Apply Job to a group   option.
  4. From the list of Groups, select a destination device Group you wish to move and click on Move.
  5. Now, you will see the device group is moved under the destination device Group.
