How to Create a Network Fence Job for macOS Devices in SureMDM

Purpose

This article explains the steps to create and deploy a Network Fence job for macOS devices in SureMDM. Network Fencing allows administrators to automatically trigger specific jobs when a managed macOS device connects to or disconnects from a designated Wi-Fi network (SSID), helping enforce security and compliance policies based on network connectivity.

Prerequisites

  • Access to the SureMDM Web Console.
  • macOS devices enrolled and managed in SureMDM.
  • Administrator privileges in SureMDM to create or modify jobs.
  • Job is supported on Agent version >=7.9.0

Steps

  1. Login to SureMDM Web Console.
  2. Click Jobs and select macOS as the Operating System.
  3. On the Select Job Type screen, click Network Fence.
  4. On the Network Fence prompt, enable the Enable Network Fencing option.
  5. Select the Select Fence tab and enter the SSID (wireless network name). Click Add Fence to add additional Wi-Fi networks if required.
  6. Select the Fence Entered tab, click Add, and choose the job that should be activated when the macOS device connects to the specified Wi-Fi network.
  7. Select the preferred Alert Type for notification. Alerts can be sent to the device, SureMDM Web Console, or an email address.
  8. Select the Fence Exited tab, click Add, and choose the job that should be activated when the macOS device disconnects from the specified Wi-Fi network or connects to a different network.
  9. Select the preferred Alert Type for notification.
  10. Click Save, provide a name for the Network Fence job, and save it.
  11. Go to SureMDM Home and select the desired macOS device(s) or device group(s).
  12. Click Apply, select the Network Fence job, and click Apply.

Conclusion

Creating a Network Fence job in SureMDM enables administrators to automate device actions based on Wi-Fi network connectivity. By applying different jobs when macOS devices enter or exit specified networks, organizations can strengthen security, enforce compliance policies, and reduce manual administrative effort through automated network-based device management.
