How Wipe Device Action works based on Enrollment mode.

Remote wiping is a security feature that allows a device owner to send a command that remotely deletes data from a computing device. It’s primarily used to erase data on a device that has been lost or stolen, so the data won’t be compromised if it falls into the wrong hands. It’s also used to remove data from a device that has changed owners or administrators and can’t be physically accessed to remove data.

Purpose

The purpose of this knowledge article is to provide a guide on how a wipe device action is based on enrollment mode.

Prerequisites

NA

Steps

  1. Login to the SureMDM Web console.
  2. Select the device from the console and navigate to the More option.
  3. Select the Wipe Device action.

Enrollment mode and action details:

  1. Device Owner Mode: In the console, when we wipe an Android Enterprise device in Device Owner mode, all of the device’s configurations will be cleared, and the SureMDM Agent will be removed, i.e., it will factory reset the device and will look like a new device.
  2. Device Admin Mode: In the console, when we wipe a device enrolled in Device Admin mode, all of the device’s configurations will be cleared, and the SureMDM Agent will be removed, i.e., it will factory reset the device and will look like a new device.
  3. Work Profile Mode: When we wipe a device with a Profile Owner, any restrictions applied to the work profile will be cleared, and the work container will be removed, leaving only the personal container. In this enrollment mode, personal data will not be erased, but only work apps (work containers) associated with it will be removed.
