How to Allow Location Access on BYOD Enrolled Android Device

Purpose

The purpose of this article is to provide administrators with clear instructions on enabling location access without user consent on BYOD enrolled Android devices. By following this guide, organizations can ensure that device location can be retrieved silently when required for security, compliance, or operational needs, while understanding the applicable platform limitations and policy considerations.

Prerequisites

  1. Should have an active SureMDM Account
  2. Android devices to be enrolled in BYOD

Steps

  1. On the device end, launch SureMDM Agent > Settings > User Privacy > Enable “Unattended location tracking.

  2. Once the above setting is configured, admins will be able to fetch/track the location of the devices.

Note: Since BYOD enrolled devices have certain platform-level limitations and cannot be fully managed remotely via SureMDM, the above configurations must be completed directly from the device end.

Conclusion

By enabling location access without user interaction on BYOD-enrolled devices, administrators can seamlessly retrieve and monitor device location as required.
