How to change the polling mechanism of the Nix Agent on the device end

In the polling mechanism, the processor periodically checks each of its input and output devices to see if any of them have a request that it needs to handle. The admin may want to change the type of polling that the device is enabled for. Now the Nix Agent offers a way to change the type of polling mechanism on the device end that allows the administrator to choose from the different types of polling mechanisms available.

Purpose

The purpose of this knowledge article is to provide a guide on how to change the polling mechanism of the Nix Agent.

Prerequisites

  • The SureMDM Agent services should be disabled before changing the polling mechanism.

Steps

  1. Open the Nix Agent (SureMDM application) on the device.
  2. Open Nix settings.
  3. Disable SureMDM Agent Services.

To change the polling mechanism, tap Change Polling Mechanism and select from the following options:

  • Normal Polling
  • Periodic Polling

Normal Polling Mechanism

In the normal polling mechanism, the device checks into the console once every 3 hours (180 minutes). The normal polling mechanism is the default mechanism enabled on the Nix Agent.

Periodic Polling Mechanism

In a periodic polling mechanism, the admin can change the interval between each ping between the device and the console. This is a method whereby the client will not be continuously connected to the server. Under periodic polling, the server check will happen only after a fixed period of time, which may range from 1 minute to 10080 minutes (7 days).

Once you click on periodic polling, enter the desired time interval in minutes, and the device will check in with the console as per the set interval.
