In many organizations, restricting users from taking screenshots on macOS devices is crucial for maintaining data security and protecting sensitive information. This measure helps safeguard corporate data, avoid unauthorized sharing of internal content, and ensure compliance with security policies. This can be achieved using SureMDM, which allows administrators to restrict the screenshot functionality and maintain better control over information access.
Purpose
The purpose of this article is to guide administrators on how to restrict screenshot functionality on macOS devices using SureMDM.
Prerequisite
- Should have an active SureMDM Account
- Device to be enrolled in SureMDM Console
Steps
- Login to SureMDM Console.
- Navigate to Profiles > macOS > >New Profile > Device Enrollment > Device Restrictions > Functionality > Disable “Allow Screenshots and screen recording
Note: If a default profile is already configured, you can add the above settings to the same profile. Otherwise, you may create a new macOS profile to apply these configurations.
- Give the profile a name and save it.
- Select the device or group of devices where this configuration needs to be deployed.
- Once the macOS profile is deployed, if a user attempts to capture a screenshot on the device, the following error message will be displayed.
Conclusion: By applying the above configurations in the macOS profile, end users will be restricted from taking screenshots using any key combinations, thereby enhancing data security and safeguarding sensitive information.
