Purpose
This article explains how to remove an Access Point Name (APN) policy that has been configured on an Android device using SureMDM.
In scenarios where an APN policy is no longer required, incorrectly configured, or needs to be replaced, administrators can remove the existing APN configuration by deploying a Run Script job from the SureMDM Console. This method allows IT teams to either delete all APN settings or remove a specific APN by name.
This approach is especially useful when:
- Network connectivity issues are caused by incorrect APN settings
- Devices are being migrated to a different carrier
- Temporary APN configurations need to be rolled back
- APN settings would be greyed out on the device hence the user would not be able to remove it.
Prerequisites
Before proceeding, ensure the following requirements are met:
- The Android device is enrolled in SureMDM
- The device is online and communicating with the SureMDM server
- The APN policy was previously configured via SureMDM
Steps
Remove the APN Policy
Option 1: Delete All APN Settings
We can remove all APN configurations from the device by deploying the following Run Script:
!#suremdm
deleteApnSettings(*)
Explanation:
- The wildcard * instructs SureMDM to delete all APN entries present on the device.
- This is useful when the device must revert to carrier-default APN settings or when multiple APNs were configured.
Option 2: Delete a Specific APN by Name
If we want to remove only a particular APN, specify the APN name instead of using *.
Example:
!#suremdm
deleteApnSettings(MyAPNName)
