Purpose
In enterprise environments, administrators may need to control which Wi-Fi frequency band (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz) a device connects to in order to improve network stability, reduce interference, or optimize performance.
Using SureMDM, administrators can configure Wi-Fi band preference on Zebra devices by deploying a Run Script job that leverages Zebra’s MX framework.
Prerequisites
- Device must be enrolled in SureMDM
- Access to SureMDM Console with permission to create Jobs.
Steps
- Login to SureMDM Console.
- Navigate to Jobs → Android → Run Scripts.
- Give it a Job name.
- In the left panel, navigate to:
Zebra MX Config → Network
- Select the required Wi-Fi band option:
- Use 2.4 GHz as Wi-Fi network band
- Use 5.0 GHz as Wi-Fi network band
- Use auto (both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz) as Wi-Fi network band
- After selecting a band, click on Edit Values and a prompt will appear asking to enter channel values.
- Enter the required Wi-Fi channel value(s).
Note: For Single Channel enter value of Channel eg 1, for multiple channels you can enter values of channels in csv like 1,2 and for range of channels enter value of channel like 1-5.
- Click OK and then Insert to populate the script.
- Click Save and apply the job to the device.
Conclusion
Using Run Script with Zebra MX Config in SureMDM, administrators can configure the Wi-Fi frequency band and channel preferences on Zebra devices. This provides better control over device connectivity and helps optimize wireless performance in enterprise deployments.
