How to use the Group Creator Plugin available on SureMDM

App Plugins are software programs that customize the way platforms function or behave, and allow you to customize the user experience. The Group Creator Plugin helps to create Device Groups and Subgroups by allowing you to upload a CSV file with the Group Path.

Purpose

The purpose of this knowledge article is to provide a guide on how to use the Group Creator Plugin available on SureMDM.

Prerequisites

• SureMDM Plugins are available only for Enterprise Subscription.

Steps

Step 1 : Enable the Group Creator Plugin in SureMDM.

1. Login to the SureMDM Console.
2. Navigate to Settings and further to Account Settings.
3. Select Plugins and then Manage Plugins.
4. In Manage Plugins, select the Plugin Store tab.
5. Select the Group Creator Plugin and click on Install Now.

6. Once the Plugin is installed, click on the Installed Plugins tab.
7. Search for the Group Creator Plugin and click Enable.

Step 2 : Create a CSV file with Group and Sub Group Paths to be created.

1. Create a CSV file with Group and Sub-Group paths mentioned in the following format
   
   • Home\Group\SubGroup\Subsubgroup
     Example :  Home\Main\Sub\Last

Note:

• It’s mandatory to include the Parent Group path for Sub Groups creation.
• Group path declared in the CSV file must not have any special characters added at the end.

Step 3: Execute the Group Creator Plugin to create the Groups and Sub Groups.

1. Login to the SureMDM Console.
2. Click on the MORE tab and choose Apps Plugin.
3. Select the Group Creator Plugin.
4. On the next page, under upload file click on choose file and upload the CSV file created.
5. It should display the status under Success Log as the File name imported successfully ( Only if the correct file format, such as CSV, along with an accurate Group Path declared in the file).

6. Click on “Create Device Groups” to create the Device Groups and Sub Groups.

Do Not Close the tab when the screen is loading or until it displays the message under Success Log.

Sample Output is as seen below. ( 5 Sample Groups are created on SureMDM Console using the attached sample file with the Group Creator Plugin )

Note:

• Special characters supported are : ( ) [ ] ” ‘ @ – _{ } &
• Adding a New Group Path should be done using a new CSV file, as the paths already exist in the previously used file won’t be uploaded with the existing paths.
