How to support Dedicated Devices(COSU) With Android Enterprise Using SureMDM?

Dedicated Devices (formerly called COSU or Corporate-Owned Single-Use) devices refers to business-owned Android devices which are optimized and deployed for single, dedicated purposes. It could be a locked field device for the mobile workforce, a portable point of sale device or even a digital kiosk for your business which the company has the most control over than the device users(or employees).

SureMDM now offers an easy way to enroll, deploy and manage such business-owned Android device through Dedicated Device profile using Android Enterprise platform. Once these devices are set with Dedicated Devices profile, there are host of features that can be remotely applied for secure mobility and mobile app management.

There are two ways to enroll SureMDM account with Android Enterprise:

Enroll SureMDM account with Android Enterprise using Gmail Account

  • Using Gmail Account
  • Using Managed Google Account

    The following steps are involved in enrolling SureMDM with Android Enterprise

  • Enroll Android Enterprise in SureMDM 
  • Activate Android Enterprise’s Dedicated Device profile on the device

Steps to enroll SureMDM account with Android Enterprise using Gmail Account

1.  Login to SureMDM Web Console.

2.  On SureMDM Home Screen, click Profiles.

3. Select Android > Tap on Enroll Android Enterprise.

4. On the Enterprise Enrollment prompt, select Enroll using your Gmail account and click on Enroll

5.  On the Google Play screen, click on Get started login with the Gmail account.

6.  Enter your organization name in Business Name and click Next.

7.  In the Contact details screen, enter the details, check the Agreement declaration, and click Confirm

8. Click Complete Registration.

Once Android Enterprise gets enrolled in the SureMDM account, two new options are visible on the Android Profiles screen.

1. Android Enterprise Apps – Under Android Enterprise Apps, there are the following options:

  • Login to Google Play for Work – This option displays a list of Enterprise Approved Apps.  To approve apps, go to Google Play for Work, log in using the same Gmail account enrolled with Android Enterprise, and start approving apps. 

Note: You can also approve apps by adding applications from the Play for Work option in Application policy under Android Policy.

  • Configure StoreLayout – Admin can use the basic layout or create a new page to display all Enterprise Approved Apps

2. Settings – This option allows us to change the store layout, keep track of Enterprise Approved Apps and licenses, and option to unenroll from Android Enterprise.

Steps to activate Android Enterprise’s Dedicated Device profile on the device

1.  Take a new device or factory reset the existing device.

2.  On the Language page, select the desired Language and tap Start.

3. Connect the device with the Wi-Fi network.

4. Next, on the Add your account screen, enter keyword afw#sureMDM in the E-mail section, and tap Next.

5. Next, go through Google services and Accept to go to the next screen.

6. On the Android for Work screen, SureMDM Agent will be listed, tap Install.

7. SureMDM Agent will start downloading

8. On Android Enterprise Configuration, select Skip Encryption and tap Next.

9. On the Set up your profile screen, tap Set Up.

The device will turn into kiosk mode with the SureMDM Agent application.   

Enroll SureMDM account with Android Enterprise using Managed Google Account

The following steps are involved in enrolling SureMDM with Android Enterprise:

  • Enroll Android Enterprise in SureMDM account
  • Activate Android Enterprise’s Dedicated Device profile on the device

Steps to enroll Android Enterprise in SureMDM account

1. Login to SureMDM Web Console.

2. On SureMDM Home Screen, click Profiles.

3. Select Android > Enroll Android Enterprise.

4. On the Enterprise Enrollment prompt, select Enroll Using Your Managed Google Account.

5. Enter Google Managed Domain and EMM Token and click Enroll.

6. Copy the generated token and paste it in the EMM Token field in SureMDM Console.

Android Enterprise will be enrolled to the SureMDM web console.

Steps to activate Android Enterprise’s Dedicated Devices profile on the device

1. Take a new device or factory reset the existing device.

2. On the Language page, select the desired Language and tap Start.

3. Connect the device with the Wi-Fi network.

4. Tap Accept and Continue to use the same settings.

5. Enter domain details – User Name, Password, and tap Next.

6. Go through the Terms of Service and tap I agree.

7. On the Google Services screen, select the required options and tap Next.

8. On the next screen, the SureMDM Agent application will be listed and tap Install.

9. SureMDM Agent will start downloading and on the next screen tap Install.

10. On Android Enterprise Configuration, select Skip Encryption and tap Next.

11. On the Set up your profile screen, tap Set Up.

After setting the device owner, the device will turn into kiosk mode with the SureMDM Agent application.

12. Launch the SureMDM Agent app in the same window and enroll in the SureMDM console using Manual or scan QR Code options.

 Once enrolled, the SureMDM Agent home screen will appear.

Steps to enroll Dedicated Devices profile using Scan QR code

1. Login to SureMDM Web Console and click on the Enrollment option.

2. Click on ListView and Select the Create QR code option.

  1. In Setup QR Code for Enrollment prompt, enter the below details. 

    a. Under Enrollment Type,
  • Enter Name, 
  • Select Platform as Android, and 
  • Select Android Enterprise Enrollment as Enrollment Type. 
  • Click on Next.

    b. Under Configure options
  • Select Group
  • Select the Device name.
  • Enter Wifi SSID
  • Enter Wifi Password
  • Select Wifi Security Type 
  • Select Wifi Hidden 
  • Click on the Provisioning settings option.

    c. Under the Provisioning settings option.
  • Check Skip Encryption
  • Check Skip SureMDM Agent Permission Checklist
  • Check Enable DeepThought
  • Select Locale
  • Select Language
  • Select Country
  • Click Save

    d.Navigate to Save QR code and click on the Save option.

Now when a new device or factory reset device is powered on, the user should tap 6 times on the language screen, launch the QR code reader and scan the QR code. Once the QR code is read, Dedicated Device enrollment will be initiated and the device will start in kiosk mode with SureMDM Agent application.
